FCL vs LCL from Chattogram: A Plain Guide to Choosing Right
OdooBot

FCL means you book a whole container. LCL means you share one. Choosing wrong wastes money in one direction and time in the other.

What each means

FCL, Full Container Load, gives privacy, speed, and a lower cost per unit once your volume is big enough. LCL, Less than Container Load, lets you pay only for the space you use, at the cost of a little extra time at each end.

The rule of thumb

  • Below roughly 13 to 15 cubic meters, LCL usually wins.
  • Above that, FCL usually wins even if not completely full.
  • Very heavy cargo can flip the math sooner, so check both quotes.

Beyond price

Fragile cargo justifies FCL earlier. Tight deadlines favour FCL because it skips consolidation. Some retail buyers require sealed containers by purchase order, which points to FCL.
